NWS collects environmental information and provides services for other governmental agencies, the private sector, the public, and the global community. More sectors of the U.S. economy are recognizing the impacts of weather, water, and climate on their operations and are becoming more sophisticated at using weather-related information to make. NOAA has more than twenty years of experience restoring wildlife and habitats impacted by oil spills, hazardous waste sites and vessel groundings. Our restoration efforts for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill are part of broader, long-term Gulf Coast recovery efforts. NOAA is involved with planned, ongoing, and completed restoration projects in the Gulf states, as well as other efforts such.

One example of the importance of NOAA’s “wet side” programs is the role they play in disaster preparedness and mitigation. Coastal wetland buffer zones in the United States are estimated to provide $ billion per year in storm protection, and a single acre of wetland can store 1 to million gallons of floodwaters or storm surge. A director of health information services in a hospital wants to implement a computer-based patient record system over the next 2 years. She gets support from the CIO, who advocates for the project with the administrative team.

Homeland Security Program Office NOAA's Role in Homeland Security. National Weather Service National Weather Service- NWS provides weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories, adjacent waters and ocean areas, for the protection of life and property and the enhancement of the national economy. The LCDP is an month intermittent NOAA leadership development program. The program will provide this cadre of employees with a series of cross-line, multidisciplinary training and learning experiences that will broaden participants’ understanding of NOAA’s strategic vision, mission, and goals, as well as our business processes.

NOAA's leadership role in environmental information services for the nation: report to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and the House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space, and Technology on a plan to modernize NOAA's environmental data and information systems based on the needs assessment for data management archival, and distribution.

NOAA services include climate predictions and projections; weather and water reports, forecasts and warnings; nautical charts and navigational information; and the continuous delivery of a range of Earth observations and scientific data sets for use by public, private, and academic sectors.

NOAA today is announcing new strategies to dramatically expand the agency’s application of four emerging science and technology focus areas — NOAA Unmanned Systems, Artificial Intelligence, ‘Omics, and the Cloud — to guide transformative advancements in the quality and timeliness of NOAA science, products and services.

In the U.S., where over half of us live along the coast and more than 78 percent of our overseas trade by volume comes and goes along our marine highways, the health of our coasts is intricately connected to the health of our nation's economy.

The National Ocean Service (NOS) translates science, tools, and services into action, to address threats to coastal areas such as climate change. The visit highlighted NOAA's important work and partnerships in the region, including programs from NOAA’s National Weather Service, Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research, and the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service.

We provide vital services for the nation: productive and sustainable fisheries, safe sources of seafood, the recovery and conservation of protected resources, and healthy ecosystems—all backed by sound science and an ecosystem-based approach to management.

That document, Our Nation and the Sea: A Plan for National Action, set the stage for the evolution of this Nation's current programs in marine science and resource development. Of particular interest was the Commission's recommendation to create a new National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency which would administer the Nation's principal civil.

Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR) - or "NOAA Research" - provides the research foundation for understanding the complex systems that support our planet. Working in partnership with other organizational units of the NOAA, a bureau of the Department of Commerce, NOAA Research enables better forecasts, earlier warnings for natural disasters, and a greater understanding of the Earth.

The demand for high-value environmental data and information has dramatically increased in recent years. To improve our ability to meet that demand, NOAA’s former three data centers—the National Climatic Data Center, the National Geophysical Data Center, and the National Oceanographic Data Center, which includes the National Coastal Data Development Center—have merged into the.
